About the Environment Governance Group
The Environment Governance Group at CSE is engaged in capacity building, research and advocacy for environment protection.
The major work of the team includes - developing policies/plan and building capacity at the level of policy makers, industry representatives and urban local bodies for better compliance, monitoring and enforcement. The team is planning to expand its work in the brick sector in the next year. The major focus of the team would be policy research and advocacy for cleaner brick production in the country which includes both clay and flyash bricks. The team would be working with policy makers, regulators and brick kiln entrepreneurs.
Work Profile:
The selected candidates are expected to be experts in the field and contribute towards policy research and advocacy work in the brick kiln sector as well as experience in delivering capacity building programs in the area.
Specific tasks include:
Research on policy matters and contribute to capacity building programs;
Analysis and interpretation of the data/ information as required for specific research work;
Preparation of reports, communication materials, and other publications as necessary;
Communicating and networking with a wide range of stakeholders for effective advocacy;
Travel as required for the work.
Required Skills:
Research and analytical skills and a good hold on report writing;
Good oral communication and networking ability;
Ability to work in a team to meet deadlines;
Creative Thinker and ability to innovate.
Qualification and Experience:
Bachelor's in Environmental or Energy Engineering or Masters in Environmental Sciences or equivalent, with work experience in the field of environment and social work in brick kiln sector.
Minimum experience: 4 years for Senior Research Associate(SRA); 7 years for Programme Manager(PM).
The designation and the salary would be commensurate with qualifications and experience of selected candidates. The position is based in New Delhi.

Centre for Science and Environment recognises Social Impact Assessment (SIA) as an important tool to inform decision makers, regulators and stakeholders about the possible social and economic impacts of a development project. To be effective, SIA requires the active involvement of all concerned stakeholders. CSE has developed a five-day training programme aimed at giving practical exposure to participants on SIA with specific reference to infrastructure, mining and other industrial projects.
The programme is designed based on the new Act, “The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013”, and will be relevant and effective for SIA practitioners, officials from state land department, municipality, district collector, sub-divisional magistrate, developers, academician, students, NGOs etc.
The objective of this programme is to build a cadre of trained professional who can conduct and review SIA reports. The programme will also impart understanding of the issues and challenges in land acquisition, enhance skills in socio-economic surveys, public consultations, data collection, planning land acquisition and rehabilitation and resettlement plan. The course would also discuss applicable central/state laws such as Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA), The Forest Rights Act, 2006, and the Companies Acts, 2013.

CSE's short term training programme on Social Impact Assessment to be held in New Delhi from 20-24 January, 2013.
Objective:The objective of this programme is to build capacity and create awareness among regulators, developers, NGOs and academicians to understand SIA process by sensitising the stakeholders on the
ecological perception of human habitat in India, the political economy of natural resources, governance and emerging land conflicts and the local and environmental impacts of development projects. The course would also cover in detail the applicable Central/State laws and policies related to land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation,
Key provisions of the LAR&R Bill, Benefit Sharing with communities, Reconnaissance and Baseline Survey, Land Acquisition Survey and Plan (LAP) and Preparation of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). The programme also aims at evaluating the SIA report along with the applicable legislations in India.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is going to organise a hands-on two-day workshop aimed at giving practical exposure to participants on EIA with specific reference to wind power projects in Bangalore on 17-18 September, 2013.
Also, CSE will bear the course fee of the workshop which would include the lectures, study material and food for two days.

The fast growing economy, rapid industrialisation and growing urban population in India along with increasing wastewater generation are reasons for concern and reiterate the need for appropriate water management practices. Centre for Science and Environment recognises this need and has developed a five-day hands on training programme aimed at giving practical exposure to participants on wastewater treatment for industrial and urban wastewater management including reuse and recycle.
The objective of this programme is to build capacity and create awareness among regulators, developers, consultants, NGOs, students and academics to understand wastewater treatment process, technologies and affordable treatment options. The programme further aims at evaluating the performance and design parameters along with the applicable cost implication associated with each treatment system.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
• Issues and challenges of urban and industrial wastewater treatment, conservation/ efficiency including reuse and recycle.
• Wastewater treatment technologies including advanced treatment options
• Decentralized approaches in treating urban wastewater (existing and emerging)
