Pollution is defined as 'artificial', or 'excessive' presence of anything in a place where it is not naturally found. Human corpses, food, flowers and organic matter is part of the Ganges cycle, in the sense that all rivers are born to consume such wastes, purifying the world. Ever since detergents and insecticides, microbe-killing liquids etc. have begun being released into rivers, the natural cleansing mechanisms have been disturbed. It is like a stomach upset for Mother Ganga. We are all right in the observations we make, however, to get into action, we need the likes of Jairam Ramesh interacting directly on our web community. Should we send him an invitation? Maybe it is time to have our voice heard.
Prevention of pollution at source is very important to protect our rivers.A massive River Conseravtion Initiative is essential for all rivers in the country.A major initiative should be to ensure the participation of the community in the river conservation activities.
In Kerala, we have done a project to identify the local governments situated in the river basin and also to identify the major pollution issues in the Local Governments which may in turn affect the river basin also.We organised a participatory action research with participation of the panchayats functionaries and then prepared detailed proposals to mitigate the issues. The projects thus identified got support from different agencies like NABARD, Planning Board etc and now the panchayats are implementing it.
Another major aspect for any river action program is community awareness to lead to change in attitude ,lifestyle and perspective of the community towards conservation of commen property resources.
Its the situation of all the rivers running through urban provinces. To make this situation worst a slum will evolve over there. Whats the best thing we could do to sort out such situation?

Nice step, I have done the similar job of primary treatment in Bharat Kund in Faizabad during my research.

Many rivers and reservoirs which are our valuable water resources are getting polluted in India.
The emphasis should be more on SOURCE PROTECTION than treatment.
Prevention is better than cure!
