The Energy Efficiency Program Officer will be initially required to work from the Mumbai office, after which he or she will work from Pune.

Overview:

ISC is seeking an experienced Energy Efficiency Program Officer (EEPO) to support its Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS+) Center in India, as we are incorporating an energy efficiency focus into our EHS+ Center trainings and activities in order to meet the increased demands of Indian industry. The EEPO will be responsible for supporting and coordinating the integration of energy efficiency curriculum design and activities into Center operations and initiatives.  Specifically, s/he will work with EHS+ Center staff and external trainers to support the design and roll-out of new energy efficiency courses, as well as oversee coordination of a series of workshops on topics such as process heating and steam assessment that will target the most energy intensive industrial processes in some of India’s most energy intensive industrial sectors. S/he will work with relevant Center and ISC staff to ensure compliance with ISC and donor procedures and protocol on all project aspects such as monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and communications activities. 

 

The EEPO will report directly to the Acting Country Director for normal day-to-day oversight and activities.  Technical oversight and support will be provided by the Program Officer and other program staff based in ISC headquarters in Vermont. S/he will collaborate on a regular basis with other staff in ISC’s India field office such as the Program Officer, the M&E Officer and the Communications & Outreach Officer.

 

Program Description

Located in Pune, Maharashtra, the India EHS+ Center is housed within Symbiosis International University’s renownedSymbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), and is managed by the Institute for Sustainable Communities in partnership with SIIB. The Center offers world class trainings on various EHS topics that address everything from the basic fundamentals of EHS to niche topics specific to particular industries. See current course listings here. The courses taught at the India EHS+ Center are developed by local experts. They include courses adapted from the successful training materials developed by ISC’s EHS+ Network, as well as custom courses developed in partnership with local companies and global brands. All courses are tailored to meet the needs of Indian factories and industries. Launched at the beginning of 2015, this EHS+ Center is the fourth developed by ISC, following the successful launch of two Centers in China, and one in Bangladesh. The Centers together make up the EHS+ Network, a multi-country partnership designed to support advancement in the EHS profession.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate closely with technical experts and trainers to support curriculum design for skill-building energy efficiency courses;
  • Lead coordination of a series of 4-day, intensive workshops to take place in various regions of India that will focus on energy efficiency topics such as steam system efficiency assessment and process heating efficiency assessment. This includes the following responsibilities:
    • Communicate with factory management to recruit appropriate participants for trainings
    • Coordinate workshop logistics such as travel and accommodations, meals, venue, and equipment and training materials, etc.
    • Support consultants and trainers in workshop curriculum development and execution
    • Support related monitoring and evaluation, communications and reporting efforts
  • Work with the local M&E Officer to support program evaluation activities such as data collection and analysis, tracking project indicators and targets, and summarizing findings for energy efficiency related initiatives;
  • Work with the local Communications Officer to support promotional and communications activities such as success story development, marketing project activities, and preparing summaries of activities and results, etc.;
  • Support donor reporting by collecting and communicating key project activities, data, testimonials and outcomes;
  • Coordinate across a wide range of stakeholders including ISC India field and staff, EHS+ Center staff, ISC staff from headquarters and other field offices, client representatives and participants, and trainers and consultants, etc. to ensure strong communications across program and Network efforts;
  • Support planning and implementation of other energy related events and seminars, as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field—graduate degree preferred;  
  • Five years of experience supporting program implementation of environmental/energy efficiency projects;
  • Experience working in or with the industrial sector required;
  • Experience working on USAID funded projects preferred;
  • International nonprofit experience preferred;
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience working with, energy efficiency tools and concepts for industry;
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
  • Capacity to stay organized and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving, dynamic project environment;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills
  • Fluency in English and Hindi (oral and written).
