Reseva Ducke outside Manaus

The city of Manaus has grown and is now eating into the Amazon forest on its boundary. The square patch of forest edge that you see in the top right of the satellite imagery is the Reserva Ducke. It was a forest experiment station that was made into a botanical garden by the city of Manaus for stopping the advancement of the city into the Amazon. Of course the city if growing in other directions. 'Development' takes a toll on the forest and other natural resources. This is a commendable example of conservation and development.
