About:

Iora Ecological Solutions is an environmental finance, policy advisory and project development group. Our mission is to enable sustainable development in India by promoting ecosystem conservation and low carbon technologies through customized financing and distribution models.

 

Iora's founding team comprises of professionals with several years of entrepreneurial and management experience in climate change mitigation through CDM and carbon financing, forestry conservation and renewable energy.

 

We are currently working with socially responsible investors, carbon buyers, technology providers, governments and project developers based in North America, India and South East Asia.

The Economic of Environment and Biodiversity (TEEB):TEEB is a major international initiative to promote inclusion of true valuation of contribution of ecosystem in planning processes at governmental societal and corporate levels and developing markets for rewarding conservation. Iora recently co-authored the TEEB –India Scoping Study for the forestry sector in partnership with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.

  • Temporary Position at IORA Ecological Solutions- RS and GIS Technician

    We are seeking a Remote Sensing/GIS Analyst to support our forest carbon project at Hoshangabad for four months (which may be extended to two more months as per the requirement of the project). Candidates with prior experience of working in carbon/biomass estimation will be highly preferred. The selected candidate will serve as the remote sensing and GIS subject-matter expert on a team comprised of multiple experts.  This is a full-time, salaried position, and salary will be based on education, experience. the job will be based at Bhopal.

    The following skills are required to be considered for this position:

    • Post Graduate degree in RS and GIS or Forestry with minimum 1 year experience of forest carbon mapping by using RS and GIS techniques

    • Good understanding of remote sensing concepts, hardware, and software employed in land cover mapping, including:

    • Image quality assessment
    • Digital image processing for land use land cover mapping and change detection
    • Image classification techniques
    • Knowledge of various Remote Sensing modeling languages (especially ERDAS gmd)
    • Validation of  land cover classifications
    • Thematic map accuracy assessments

    • Fluency with GIS and RS analysis using ArcGIS and ERDAS Imagine.

    • Ability to interpret regulations and critically evaluate remote sensing and GIS deliverables for adherence to carbon estimation methodologies

    • Ability to perform data quality review on both raster and vector data formats to ensure data integrity

    • Knowledge of map projections and their implications on spatial data quality.

    • Proficiency with converting spatial data between formats such as shapefile, kml, raster, gpx, etc.

    • Ability to perform well under minimal supervision and manage the responsibilities while working under pressure to meet strict deadlines
