Did you know that we can actually reduce the quantity of pathogens in the treated sewage through the means of "competitive exclusion" . Indirectly we can reduce or may be even avoid the use of harsh chemicals like chlorine and peroxides to control the pathogens in our treated sewage.

I am adding one more information to your view. Even by using ecofriendly bacteriophages also we can reduce the pathogen population.
