World Ozone Day

World Ozone Day is back !!!

This year the theme is "Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On". According to UNEP The Montreal protocol has been successful in meeting out the set targets to phase out ODS. Eventually the ozone layer is reviving and is about to recover by the middle of the next century. All this is possible by the sound contributions from all the stakeholders including the policy makers, planners, scientists, environmentalists and of course informed citizens. Hope to see positive news coming from other crucial environmental issues as well.

  • Present trend is better

  • It is perhaps a premature and foolish misconception I think that the ozone layer is recovering, it is still thinning out from what I know of the amount of industrial and household emissions we have emitted in the last 200 years. What is happening, and I can only hypothesis is that natural forces at play are causing the ozone layer to stretch and patch the holes. The earlier movement of the ozone layer holes and disappearance of it in one part of the world and appearance over other parts may indicate this phenomenon. Sort of like when you get a burn and your lowest epithelial layer heals over but is very thin and can tear at any stress. If it is as I fear then it is no cause to rejoice but rather worry at what point the entire ozone layer might pop or dissipate into space letting our air simply fizz out causing a dead planet. It maybe already too late methane from the reserves under the ice caps and Siberia are already melting and releasing, plus thanks to our obsession with air conditioning in India the amount of water vapour we expel into the atmosphere is only adding to global warming. Meanwhile we are in climate denial and not even sending representation to the NY UN Climate Change Summit, we are entertaining the Chinese PM and signing MOUs to cooperate to pollute more as global production unit and global back office.

  • We miss the day..

We take pledge we will try to minimize the use of two wheelers and 4 wheelers to save ozone depletion
