Can any one talk about this:
" How does companies in India represent their environmental disclosures in annual reports?"
What are the government regulations in India for this environmental disclosures?
What is the level of transparency regarding these disclosures in India?
Replies
If the companies have ISO 14000 they maintain everything W.R.T environmental disclosures
Well truly speaking its all for just documentary compliance with statutory conditions. The information about environment will be covered only in annular report pertaining to environmental proceedings. In the general annual report every one shows cream which are just a dream. besides, many people have cited the way of presentation rather disclosure of environmental information by companies. Moreover, nothing is coming out truly to the public....
For more clear comments of mine I need clarity in your question..
Traditionally, environmental disclosure constitutes part of corporate social responsibility which means corporations should be held accountable for any of its actions that affect people, communities and the environment.
In an survey based on 1997-98 annual reports of Indian companies, done by Business Today 1998), commented in reference to disclosure of environmental, energy and social issues "still limited to little more than a sentence or two each on today's annual reports- although companies like Gujarat Ambuja, Dr Reddy's Lab and Balrampur Chini Mills are exceptions[1]
Construction and building material companies are leaders in sustainability reporting followed by metals and mining, oil and gas and chemical companies. Transportation, finance, trade and retail and communications and media lag behind with almost no reporters amongst N100 companies. The mining and metal and IT services sectors top the list of companies in disclosing their carbon footprint followed by construction and building materials and oil and gas sector.

There is no specific regulation in india for env. disclosure in public domain except few circulars & OM issued by MoEF in 2010-11 which directs few of the industries to put their data on company website & display the pollutant emission level on display board located outside of the industry.
