I would like to add some changes in the EM course of IndSearch, Pune, which I had mentioned earlier. Recently, the course (PGDEM) duration has changed for "One year" instead of two years.

The uniqueness of this course is that it offers more learning flexibility and good experienced and eminent visiting faculty apart from the regular faculty. They also give great emphasis on learning by doing with special mentoring by the visiting faculty. Perhaps, that's why they have kept very low intake.

The idea of giving through a formal education process to acquire a green MBA/MSc or any other relevant degree only reinforces the concept CK is putting forward that education still is a necessity .. Of course exceptions to the rule will always be there as Satya has mentioned .. but in today's world of rapid growth and development.. we need change leaders particularly from the younger generation who can shape the future of this earth sustainably. Given that most of the students eventually pick up careers in industry moulding them to understand the linkages between industry and .. environment/development is critical and the timing seems right for academic institutions to nurture talent and build a pool of manpower who will perhaps be able to see sustainability initiatives as business opportunities .

Our MBA programme at Symbiosis,Pune focuses on these key linkages between energy and environment with a solutions oriented approach with lots of industry interaction.

However, I also believe that there are a lot of students and citizens who want to work for the environment but do not know how to do it in a very systematic and sustainable way so that they can also earn their livelihood and potentially create more employment all around in this sector. This is where colleges and universities and a practical green education fit in. We need to create more green opportunities . The right education will alone fulfill that vision.

"What we learn while working is different from the study".

This is indicates a bad course from a bad institution. More wider the gap, worst is the course. Ironically, most of the courses in our country are designed to be different from reality. This is one the basic shortcoming in our education system. Instead of striving to the lessen the gap, education institutions conspire to create illusion about their courses. And we all know that when we fail to understand illusion, we call it "magic". I wonder, (when one of the student provoked me) that this what the magic wand these great institutes and brands provide to their students. Some do provide practical education to same extend and others provide illusion of the same.

I hope things will change with the new breed of smart, young and dynamic people. Todays student do not feel like to attend the class if the One Hour spend is not worth of bringing any change in his/her knowledge and skill.

I think what is more important is the practical experience of working in projects that is required in this subject. No matter where you do your theoretical courses from, after PG one must join some active organisation and work for atleast 1-2 years in various env. projects to get a hands on experience. What we learn while working is different from the study. I personally feel that while I learned many things when i did my M.Sc. in Env. NITIE, Mumbai (Next to IIT Mumbai) conducts 2 yrs full time PGDISEM that is highly reputed and accepted course across industries. Its grooms into various HS&E domains including Carbon Trading.

yea it's true you don't need to have a formal degree in your endeavours to save environment but it happens only when we live close to the nature.However, it is also established fact that for those who live in cities in artificial environments away from the green valleys and rivers,such type of institutions do help in making us aware about our Mother Nature , the real life situations and the importance of green living.
