It is well known that the wetlands have rich biodiversity than any other habitat of the world. Based on the approval of National Wetlands Committe held on 16.03.2009, total 115 Wetlands have been identified to conserve Wetlands under National Wetland Conservation program judiciously. Where as almost every village consists of at least one small or big Wetlands, which gives shelter to amphibians as well as aquatic lives. These Wetlands are under threat due to echroachment or siltation. Hence, before going to loss their (village level Wetlands) identity, we should have a very micro level policy to conserve those Wetlands, which is not yet identified judiciously.

Your feed back may give an idea to restore such unkown Wetlands (Native of Creatures).

  • Getiing the functional role known to both, the villagers and the concerned authorities, would help to identify the importance...and to demarcate a defined region which has to be protected otherwise encroachment would be starting firstly at a distance and then engulf the whole area under it. .....Iam still not satisfied with the clearance/judgement of construction...on floodplain of yamuna, delhi(i read somewhere about the facts of passing the judgement of supreme court about gamesvillage).
wetlands serve in flood and drought mitigation both.
  • Dear Friend,
please help me to conserve a good wetland in my native place 'Aranmula" at Pathanamthitta Dist of Kerala being transformed by a vested group to an airport. The site is really an important flood plain of River Pumpa originating from Sabarimala region, is a good source of fresh water during summer to Kuttanad regions in Kerala. ( you can see the progress of work in google earth). They don't even have an EIA clearance for the project.
  • Reallly sir, we have seen ap also in recent days. it has to stop with awarenesss & stringent Law then only we can save our nature. thanks for information.
  • Its true that peoples are enchroaching wetlands presented in and around the villages. Awareness programs sholud be done to preserve them.
  • That is very true. In addition to being abode to the local biodiversity, these small ponds play important role in recharging the underground water. Alas! slowly these are dying without being noticed.
  • Awarness and Primary education among villagers for Environmental Protection and their beneficial usages must be prove.
