Chennai city has signed a contract with a new company to remove garbage from the streets.
Why does garbage come on the streets? Because the bin provided can take garbage of only 5-10 households.If the street ( which has mostly aparments) has more than 30 households how can the garbage bin hold it?Instead if door-to-door collection is done the garbage will stay within the households and will not litter the streets.Whycan't corporations understnad this?
Nowhere in the world have I seen garbage bins on streets with garbage spilling over.

i think every city today faces the problem of garbage disposal,i am a native of thrissur in kerala and there has been no garbage collection from homes or from the garbage bins in roads for the past 4 weeks.now there are heaps of garbage in every nook and corner,which is making life difficult for the residents due to the stench.To top it all corporation has made dumping garbage in roadsides a punishable offence.the good news has been that people are now enthusiastic about processing biodegradable waste in their own homes and there ia a new interest in portable biogas plants and composting practices.but what about other plastic and non biodegradable wastes??if corporation doesnt collect it,and people cant dump it anywhere,what are the hapless citizens supposed to do???
"Education"- is the key word on such a simple thing like garbage which we create from our own homes!!Whether it is grandparents or children....all enjoy the luxuries of latest gadgetry at homebut why does garbage need education.?It is because we lack civic sense and think the road is No one'sproperty so we can dump whatever we wish on them.
When there is door to door collection why should there be Garbage bins on streets?
dooe to door collection has been regularly practiced in some parts, the corporation have given contract and those people segregate the waste from household and take it. every morning they come to collect waste by ringing bell in their vehicle to indicate residence. 1-2 commom garbage bin is kept in common so that excess waste which residence want to dispose immediatly can throw it in garbage collection point. this is done in mysore. garbage bins is must in streets but recommended they should have some point of use methods like commercial street, near travel stations etc...people should be educated about this in school, college .. but what about granny n granpa'a sitting at home. even today if i tell my husband's granny not to throw waste back our home she does it saying cows, goat, sheeps wil come and eat. rag pickkers will pick it up.. no one at home can stop her. i would suggest even the elders at home should be aware of this and be educated.
nature is at the verge of getting "cardiac disease" and still we are thinking of our cardiac issue, we can live with our cardiac problem but sure to die if nature suffers from it. Think a way out rather than compromising with the situation.
THIS HAS TO BE CHANGED is wishful thinking. We don't change unless there is some sort of compulsion or punitive action. We litter our beaches all through the year and celebrate one Divas to try cleaning it up with the help of our school children. Compulsion and punitive action pis not possible in a democracy. We have to learn to live with it. Getting tense will ponly lead to cardiac problems.
Syllabus has been changed but where is the exact change that is needed? Initially we need to make it mandatory for the sake of environment to overcome the notion "this is not our concern". My house is clean and this is enough for me even if its at the cost of littering streets. Once the waste is out of my house why should i bother, this should change because i am responsible for producing such waste hence i should be bother about its treatment. THIS HAS TO BE CHANGED.

They have changed the syllabus in schools.Where does Civic sense and environmental concern fit into the education system?Children celebrate birthdays in schools...I have given talks to parents and children not to waste money on extravgant parties.If each child plants a tree on his birthday and is taught by the school or parents to take care of it we will have children who will love nature because with the tree the birds will come and also other flora & fauna.
Unfortunately schools have a lop sided understanding of what "Education"means.
