Dear Friends and Well-wishers!

Greetings to you!

I have the following qualifications:

1) B.Sc Microbiology (2004)

2) M.Sc Environmental Sciences (2006)

3) M.Tech Environmental Engg (2010)

I have worked as a Science Educator for 2 years and as a Researcher for 5 months. I have also completed the IRCA Approved Training Course for EMS as per ISO 14001:2004.

My question is this: Am I eligible to apply as a faculty of Environmental Studies in any of the Science and Engineering colleges? My preferred job location is Pune. I checked out the following website for AICTE norms http://www.aicte-india.org/downloads/final_approval_process_241210.pdf

Page 106 gives the Faculty Cadre and Qualifications (Degree & Post Graduate) as per the AICTE norms. Please note that the qualifications for applying to the post of Assistant Professor in Engineering/Technology is BE / B Tech and ME / M Tech in relevant subject with First Class or equivalent either in BE / B Tech or ME / M Tech. Does this mean that I am eligible? The reason for my confusion is that my applications for a Lecturer's position in the AICTE-approved colleges are rejected on the grounds that I am not eligible as I don't have BE/BTech.

I have always wanted to have a career in teaching. I would like the 2 years that I have invested in teaching be fruitful and augment my career. Kindly help me to clarify my present situation.

Thank you so much!

Warm regards,

Nomita

  • Yes ! Ms Nomita .... They may be right bcuz...as per the sanction of post, minimum qualification eligibility criteria taken must have been restricted to B.Tech or  its eqvlnt degree(s) excluding a basic degree in science. Therefore, they have to select the suitable candidate first fulfilling the basic (technical/professional) degree holders first....

  • Hello,

As per revised AICTE norms the particular candidate is not eligible to teach Engineering courses like B.E Civil, Environmental Engineering etc ( I am doing liason work for AICTE approval process), the persons who are visiting the college for approval will not consider this resume for the count of teaching staff. An engineering college should maintain 1:15 staff:student ratio for which the qualification is must and Post graduation is not counted but the under graduation ( B.E/ B.Tech) only will be counted.

There are few colleges who will take this candidate and there are many in Andhra pradesh, Kerala and Tamilnadu who will take, the problem is that particular college should have M.E in Environmental engineering to apply for.

  • Dear Nomita,

Firstly I advice you to complete your Ph.D....Than u can start searching of a job, since many rule changes is going on in UGC and AICTE.

  • Dear Members,

    Sorry ton interfere all.

People doesnt understand the very basic AICTE/UGC rules for Teaching Engineering departments. Its requires a UG degree in Engineering and PG in Engineering to work in engineering Department. Here where Ph.D comes into picture.Ph.D adds only weigtage for entry level positions in Engg colleges. But essential criteria is B.E/B.Tech and M.E/M.Tech in Engineering branches. But if u want to work in science and humanities dept in engg college for teaching Phy/Chem/Env.Science,u require M.Phil or Ph.D in respective Phy/Chem/Env.Science specialization.

I had worked with private engg colleges for more than 8 yrs in Tamilandu .So i know Anna University rules & regulations thoroughly. So,Plz dont misguide her.

Let her complete her M.Phil or Ph.D in Env.Science with NET Qualification. Then she have more prospects.

  • Dear all,
Madam Nomita is M.Tech and applying for Env. Sciences only. Nowadays, so many M.Sc. persons are doing the same work in various colleges.
If madam Nomita is not eligible for Engg. College, then what are the people doing in Engg. college, who have not Ph.D.?

  • Dear nomita ur eligible.

and i have read the comment og swathi mam,as saying that in andhra pradesh very good oppurtunities for Envi professionals in colleges but its not correct as i have blog on of my post regarding this teaching field and its implementation is not taken place properly.

ok, oppurtunity is there, but as environmental subject is not having any weitage in the marks and  just for formality they have kept so, students dont want to listen our subject.

i request our eminent elders to represent this case at the central level and make the subject compulsary and strong and give oppurtunities to envi professionals from 12 stndard itself(envi sceine is not considering as a full subject of natural science)

pla think on this and expecting good out come

    thanq

  • Dear Nomita and Dr.kupps

GM. Your all qualification are different and all have  three different apects. I am sure then college was right to reject your applications because you dont have B.E but have M.Tect in Env. Your are M.Sc in Env but not Ph.D. in Env. So who suggested this type of qulification appropriate for lecturer. but your qulification is fit for Env.Consultancy. try there you will get job.

And Dr. Kupps If you have no knowledge about the UGC noms and condition then please dont give the wrong suggestion. remember this next time. Thanks.
