in the context of the Indian govt. making it mandatory that companies of a certain category spend 2% of the profits on CSR...the focus i would say is on establishing performance based indicators. several CSR reporting methods such as GRI, ISO 26000, AA 8000 are available which not only account for environmental indicators but also social indicators which result in holistic reporting framework. Though in India CSR reporting is taken seriously only by few top companies other are also waking up to its inherent benefits related to good stakeholder and consumer opinion.
