India has the worst air quality in the world

NEW DELHI: India has the worst air quality in the world, beating even its neighbour China, according to an annual survey based at Yale and Columbia universities in the United States.

Of all the countries surveyed in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), which measures the effects of polluted air on human health, India ranked the lowest at 132.

The study used satellite data to measure air pollution concentrations.

So, instead of berating India further, let's check the causes. And yes, IEN members have the biggest opportunity to clean the air (!) too. So, what is your solution?

  • So we breathe pollution

  • Sir,

Forget what industries are doing, think what our beloved state of Jharkhand is not doing anything regarding the potential danger posed by the roads in Adityapur which are creating dust storms due to faulty road conditions and heavy traffic, adding to the suffering is one more reason , the faulty design of exhaust pipes approved by ARAI by tilting the exhaust outlet downwards which blows lot of dust on the poorly maintained roads, this matter was brought to the notice of ARAI by email long time back but it did not invoke the desired result.

  • Sir, the study has been based on satelite, may be the weather was a prominent issue during study. Ofcourse our country (India) has poor tech. and resources for improving air quality but this is due to increase urbanisation, please let us know how much industry has contributed in this scenario. I think it is must to understand sector wise contribution for taking steps forward. In addition, Large Industries are more concern as compare to small scale industries for air quality. What is your views, kindly let us know.

    Regards
