Composting is a Science!

Composting is often misunderstood and hence very little importance is attached to it.

Compost is NOT a bio-fertilizer in the true sense. It is food for the soil microflora (soil microbes). Thus, compost is for the soil and NOT the crop.

Composting is a science - it needs to be properly understood in order to create good quality compost on a routine basis. Just by mixing biomass with water and leaving it out to rot will never guarantee good compost. This is the reason, why soil borne pests are rampant in areas where this practice is followed.

Compost is a key ingredient in creating fertile soil. Better the soil condition, better the yield at the least possible cost.

  • Thats right.

composting is not for crops, its for soil.

and not only the composting can increase the fertility and productivity of soil (if done properly), but it can be a source of revenue for the rural people too.

Here in Ranchi, in a nursery vermicompost is prepared using red worm that convert a definite mixture of dry grass and cow dung to vermicompost and the compost is packed and is sold in market to people.

If the people are thought to produce the compost then it will be a source of income for them. On the other hand the rural people involved in agriculture will not have to be dependent on the synthetic chemical fertilizers. Although their use cannot be boycotted but will reduce to a certain extent.

Further analysis and research is needed in this as different soils and vegetation have different requirements. But this process can be employed.

And i think clover-organic-composting-training-manual is of to this idea.

Of course, thanks to global learning school.
