A primer on Climate Talk in Copenhagen

The below document written by International Institute for Environment and Development, should be a good primer for students and journalists and even those environment professionals unfamiliar with what is happening at Copenhagen right now. Go ahead and read it. Here is a blurb on it: In just three paragraphs you can catch up on the birth of the Climate Change Convention in Rio in 1992 and what nations agreed to in becoming Parties; the addition of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 and the obligations that involved; and the Bali Action Plan adopted in 2007 – in three paragraphs you now know how we got to where we are! In a few more paragraphs you can find out the key questions that need to be answered and the major battle grounds there are likely to be. The section on negotiating blocks at the COP helps in understanding who will be on the battle ground and what they might be fighting about. There’s a useful section highlighting the possible outcomes. All makes interesting reading – great for the target audience of journalists who have limited time to read through the weighty documents and not much technical knowledge about climate change issues and just as useful for the rest of us who just want to understand what is likely to go on during the COP.
