Carbon Offset gone wrong

Interesting story about Carbon Offset gone wrong in the Indian hinterland! As a CDM consultant you must have surely come across such stories. Do share your experiences , good and bad, about carbon offset projects that you came across.

We are eager to know about them here at Indian Environment Network.

  • Dear CK,
Thanks for posting this, and posing the question in a way that triggers real debate. I am not a CDM consultant but I have researched CDM and REDD (oh, never forget the magical + now). Because of my critical eye, I have collected tens of cases of CDM gone wrong. I will be very interested if members can share positive stories where CDM really did something great to contribute towards sustainable development, which doesn't follow automatically from emission reduction. The involvement of, and impact on, local community is inextricably linked to CDM's sustainable development goals. Have communities benefited in some place. And, since there is so much propaganda going around, please share self-verified or from a highly reliable sources (which wouldn't include likes of PWc, which is seriously invested in the business of carbon trade).
    Best Regards,
    Prakash
