This topic might be discussed before but couldnt find sufficient information so posting it again
I am looking for a full time/part time /certificate / distant learnig ourse in wildlife studies (biodiversityand conservation aspects). I come from engineering background and currently working as software professional but looking for a career shift because of my immense interest in the field of wildlife. I dont have any work exposure directly in this area (probably because of which couldnt get interview call for NCBS course after clearing the written test).
Can sombody suggest me courses to get into the field of wildlife..also any institutes that offers voulenteery work in this regards to gain the eperiance

Thanks everyone for such wonderfool help. I would definetly look at the options suggested above by you all. Thogh for some of the courses my age is becoming a barrier which is really disppointing(like for NCBS they have age limit of 35 so this year I gave it for first and last time). Sometime it feels like too old to shift my career to wildlife :-(

How can I forget that Debbie. Those were the most amazing days of my life specially the trip to Australia. I thought this fellow might not fit as per the criteria set by University. Plz send me the brochure of both the courses so that I can upload on this website.

The best courses offered in India are from two institutes:
1. WII, Dehradun- The entrance exams for this course are once in two years. Find details on:

2. WCS, Banglore- MSc wildlife program conducted at the National Center for Biological Sciences. Its once of the best courses and it has the entrance too. It also is conducted once in two years. The details of the program can be found on:

The WII and WCS course exams thankfully are alternately placed.
Apart from that, if you want to go abroad; avoid 1 year masters courses, because they hardly give you a chance to get the hang of subjects.
For volunteering work u can try ATREE, Kalinga Development Foundation, BNHS, M S Swaminathan Foundation, NCF Bangalore and any wildlife expert working on project.
Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, is the best place for a making a serious career in wildlife in India. They have several courses and take students from widely different disciplines. But intake is very limited. U can also try FRI, IIFM etc. u can also try for internship/project fellowship at WII.

I will strongly suggest to check the website of Centre for Science and Environment, Delhi http://www.cseindia.org/ they regularly run some short courses and also to get in touch with Wildlife Trust of India http://www.wti.org.in/ Hope this information helps.... good luck
Try to Contact BNHS(Bombay Natural History Society), mumbai. They have courses like Leadership Course in biodiversity Conservation.
