W a l k – i n – I n t e r v i e W to Engage Research Fellows at Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage three (03) research fellows [01-Senior Research Fellow (SRF), 01-Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and 01-Technical Assistant (TA)] through a Walk-in-Interview on Monday, 30th November 2009. The details of the available position along with essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below. Details of projectS and positions Project # 1 Title, details of position and duration Macroecology of terrestrial herpetofauna of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. (02 : 1-SRF and 1-JRF) Duration: Four years. Essential Qualification JRF: Masters Degree in Wildlife Science/Forestry/Zoology/Life Sciences/ Biosciences, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Desirable Qualification Candidate should have interest and experience on working with herpetofauna. Essential Qualification SRF: Masters Degree in Wildlife Science/Forestry/Zoology/Life Sciences/ Biosciences, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University and a minimum of two years of research experience. Desirable Qualification Candidate should possess at least one peer-reviewed scientific publication or popular article in biological science. Description of Work Documenting the patterns in body size, species co-occurrence and the relationship between abundance and distribution in herpetofauna in the islands. Project # 2 Title, details of position and duration Developing management capabilities for wild pigs damage control in agro-systems in and around Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan. (01 – TA) Duration: Up to 30.06.2010. Essential Qualification Masters Degree in Zoology/Wildlife Science/Animal Science/Environmental Science/Life Sciences with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Desirable Qualification Candidate with an aptitude for doing field work, data collection and analysis, ability to interact with local community and knowledge of computer applications will be preferred. Description of Work The project aims to study ecology of wild pigs; spatial and temporal distribution in context of habitat attributes, population status and socio-biology, social structure, age and sex classes; to develop capture techniques; quantify habitat use and ranging patterns of wild pigs using telemetry. GENERAL: Candidate for the position of SRF should be below 32 years of age, and for the position of JRF and TA the age shall not be more than 28 years as on 27th November 2009. Upper age limit for SRF/JRF/TA may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories. Selected candidates for the position of Senior Research Fellow (SRF), Junior Research Fellow (JRF) will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 14,000/- and Rs. 12,000/- per month respectively, and the selected candidate for the position of Technical Assistant will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 9,600/- per month. All research personnel may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time. Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis initially and may be extended for further period depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project. The selection of the candidates will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Monday, 30th November 2009 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The `Walk in Interview’ will be conducted on Monday, 30th November 2009 and the registrations of candidates will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration. Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection. Two way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.
