The deadline for submitting abstracts to the Student Conference on
Conservation Science (SCCS) - Bangalore, has been extended from 3
March to 10 March 2010
.

As a sister conference to SCCS-Cambridge, SCCS-Bangalore brings
together young researchers in conservation science to facilitate
interaction, encourage exchange of research ideas and methods, and
help build contacts and capacity. The dates for the conference are
16-18 June 2010.

Applications are invited from early-stage researchers to present their
research at the conference, which will be attended by students from
all over South and South-east Asia.

In addition to student talks, there will be four plenary lectures by
eminent conservation scientists, as well as panel discussions and
capacity-building workshops.

Confirmed plenary speakers include Professor Rhys Green (University of
Cambridge), Dr Harini Nagendra (ATREE, Bangalore and Indiana
University, USA), and Professor Ruth DeFries (Columbia University,
USA).

Panel discussions will be on conservation within versus outside
protected areas; and whether conservation efforts should be targetted
at species, ecosystems, or services.

Workshops will be on topics like Study design in conservation
research; Using genetic techniques for conservation; Where and how to
apply for funds for conservation research; How to communicate your
work in talks, posters and papers; and How to find a job in
conservation.
