these days appartments are praticing of collecting degradable solid waste such as food, vegetables peals, fruits etc and storing it in a tank for 2 to 3 days by addind water and cowdung to it to decompose and for a manure. this manure is used for gardening within the gated community. it is heigenic also ..kids play in these garden and parks.
why cant we opt for a option wherein we can collect the segregated degradable waste from residential areas and form a manure and use it for the area parks and gardens... now the solid waste collection system is collecting waste from each area and disposing it in a common area for further treat.when we use it for area parks the collection burden is also less and the transportation cost is saved.

COMPOSTING:
Composting is controlled decomposition, the natural breakdown process of organic residues. Compost is easier to handle than manure and other raw organic materials, stores well and is Odor-free. Composting is an ancient technology, practiced today.
Composting is nature's way of recycling. Composting biodegrades organic waste. i.e. food waste, manure, leaves, grass trimmings, paper, wood, feathers, crop residue etc., and turns it into a valuable organic fertilizer.

Applying to Soil:
Compost should be applied to soil in the spring and summer so plants will get the benefit of the nutrients during the growing season.Compost can be either dug into the top 15-20 cms of soil (no deeper) or left on the surface to act as a mulch (make sure the soil is moist before doing this). It can be spread over soil surrounding established plants.
For use with shrubs, bedding plants, lawns, tubs and planters, vegetable patch, fruit plants, Potting compost.
As garden compost is so rich, it must be diluted before using it as a potting compost for raising seedlings. Use one part (by volume) of compost with one part of loam/good soil and one part leaf mould or coir.
The other technique is Vermicomposting:
Vermicomposting is a modified and specialized method ofcomposting- the process uses earthworms to eat and digest farm wastes and turn out high quality compost in two months or less. Vermicompost is not a biofertilizer as is touted by some, merely improved compost.
good idea. Where r u located? If you are in Delhi, we are organising seminar on waste management, which will have some focus on waste to organic fertiliser manufacturing: business opportunities
