India is prone to various natural disasters like floods, drought, desertification, cyclone, earthquake, landslides, forest-fire, pest-attack and epidemics, etc. Environmental degradation, including climate-change, land-use changes and natural resource degradation are aggravating disaster occurrences and impacts.

 

NIDM will be observing the “World Environment Day” on 5th June 2012 with an objective to create awareness among students and other communities to Safeguard the Environment for Disaster Risk Reduction. As an opportunity to focus national attention on this important issue, NIDM will be organizing a seminar in Delhi. Further, to enhance awareness among the school students and to sensitize them towards environment and disasters, competitions are being organized for Slogan and Poem writing on theme “Safeguard the Environment for Disaster Risk Reduction”.

 

Entries from students are invited by 25th May 2012. First prize is of Rs. 10,000, Second Rs. 7,000, Third Rs. 5,000 and five consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 in each group for each activity along with certificates will be awarded to the winners. COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS: There will be SLOGAN and POEM writing competitions on the theme Safeguard the Environment for Disaster Risk Reduction”’ for the school students. The different categories of the competitions are:

(1)   Class 6th – 8th:

1.  Slogan Writing – [Hindi & English]

(2)   Class 9th – 12th:

  1. Slogan Writing – [Hindi & English]
  2. Poem Writing – [Hindi & English] 50-100 words / 5-10 lines.

 

How to participate: Students can send their entries to reach us latest by 25th May 2012 alongwith a cover letter giving details, i.e., name of student, father’s name, class and name of schools and complete home address, including phone & mobile and email (in the format enclosed). One student can only send one entry for each category. Entries may be sent on the address given below by post/courier or in person by 25th June 2012 (5.00 pm).

 

Awards: Panel of Judges will evaluate the entries for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position and for Consolation prize, from all the entries received in each category. Out of the received entries, First prize of Rs. 10,000, Second of Rs. 7,000, Third of Rs. 5,000 and five consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each along with certificates will be awarded to the winners, in a programme on 5th June 2012.
