silent valley

Silent Valley National Park is situated about 40 kms. from Mannarkad in the northeastern corner of the Palakkad district in Kerala.it is well known that teh place hosts the last stretch of tropical evergreen rain forests and a large number of wild animals.But I never understood why it is called "silent " valley .Pls let me know ......

  • The first English investigation of the watersheds of the Silent Valley area was in 1847 by the botanist Robert Wight.[1] The British named the area Silent Valley because of a perceived absence of noisy Cicadas. Another story attributes the name to the anglicisation of Sairandhri.
