The Centre for Advanced Training in Earth System Sciences and Climate  of
the Ministry of Earth Sciences hosted by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology
(IITM)  is looking for scientist trainees with outstanding academic background.  IITM is committed to develop world class research expertise for understanding and exploring unresolved scientific issues in climate science.  The other institutions under the Ministry of Earth Sciences such as IMD, NCMRWF, INCOIS, NIOT, ICMAM, CMLRE and NCAOR also specialize in different areas of earth system  sciences and technology.

The main objective of CAT-ESSC is to generate a large pool of trained and dedicated earth and earth system scientists with in-depth hands-on expertise on individual physical processes of the land, ocean, atmosphere, biosphere and cryosphere with special emphasis on climate modeling.  For the motivated candidates, the training will offer considerable scope to realize their full potential in this highly challenging field.

 

The candidates recruited will be provided this induction training extending to 18 months and on  successful completion they will be placed in any one of the Institutes of the Ministry of Earth Sciences as Scientists in suitable grades (Scientist B/C) based on their basic qualifications and performance. There is option for pursuing MTech or/and PhD program before or after placement with facilities for career enhancement.


The candidates applying for the training should posses M.Sc M.Sc M.Sc/MS/MTech  degree in
Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Oceanography, Physics, Applied
Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Physics, any area  of Earth Sciences or any equivalent
disciplines, with Physics and Mathematics at the B.Sc level oror  oror   B.Tech /   B.E   /  / //   M.Tech /  / M.E
in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electronics or Electrical  Engineering with 60% or more
marks at both the graduate and post graduate level. The candidates should be CSIR
National Eligibility Test (NET)  or the IIT-Graduate Admission Test in Engineering (GATE) (qualified. Those who are appearing for the final exams for the qualifying degree or
NET/GATE may also apply subject to the condition that they produce the final certificates if
and when called for the interview. The applicants should be of Indian origin and the upper
age limit is fixed as 28 years (30 for MTechs)   as on         31   March 2011    with relaxation as per
eligibility.   .  .   .     


The applications received will be screened and the candidates to be called for interview will be shortlisted based on their overall merit. The interviews will be held in Pune in July
2011. Candidates called for interview will be paid  sleeper class train fare. The selected
candidates inducted in the training program will be paid a consolidated remuneration of
Rs.25,000/- per month. Hostel facilities will be available to the trainees. The no. of trainees
in the first batch is tentatively fixed as Twenty. Twenty. Twenty.  The training programme for the selected
candidates is scheduled to start by early August early August  early August   2011.
