The Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, will be carrying out a project on “Addressing the Wallacean Shortfall for small vertebrates in the Western Ghats Across Space and Time” through a grant from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF). The project will build a spatial database for frogs, lizards and snakes of the Western Ghats region based on primary field data and spatial analysis. Database manager and project coordinator We are looking for a GIS database manager and analyst for a period of three years to initiate and manage the database, and to help coordinate the project. The work will include designing, setting up and building a spatial database and spatial analysis of large datasets. The person is also expected to work in a team and coordinate with field researchers for data inputs and analysis. He/she is also expected to provide technical guidance to researchers. The work will include a small amount of project coordination, administration and reporting. Eligibility: A masters degree in an appropriate subject is the minimum qualification, but those with a Ph.D. are encouraged to apply. Experience in handling various GIS and RS platforms including creating, maintaining and analysing large spatial databases is essential. Basic knowledge of and exposure to ecology and conservation science, especially with respect to the Western Ghats, would be an added advantage. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Project Assistants We are looking for 2 project assistants to carry out extensive field surveys for frogs, lizards and snakes across various parts of the Western Ghats. The surveys involve both day and night sampling and will include canopy work. Eligibility: A masters degree in an appropriate subject is the minimum qualification.
