The developers of MigrantWatch (www.migrantwatch.in), a
participatory project in which volunteers from across India contribute
information on bird migration are launching a sister project, SeasonWatch, which will
monitor plant phenology (the timing of seasonal events) across India.
Here is a short description of the project
http://www.ncbs.res.in/citsci/sw.htm
And an advertisement for a person to help run it
http://www.ncbs.res.in/citsci/WiproEducationFellowship-SeasonWatch-Advt.pdf
In brief, SeasonWatch:
a. monitors the timing of flowering, fruiting and leaf-flush of plants
(primarily trees) all over India
b. enlists the participation of citizen-volunteers who register and
monitor individual trees
c. provides open access to all data collected, as well as tools to
analyse and visualise the data
We also have a strong educational emphasis, including involving
schools and school children in this participatory project.
If you would be interested in being more closely involved,
as a phenology-watcher, in coordinating a local chapter, or in any
other way, could you please email them at citizenscience(at)ncbs.res.in
so that we can keep you informed about progress and the launch date?
