TERI at the instance of All India Cycle Manufacturers’ Association (AICMA) has carried out a detailed study on cycling and the cycle industry in India. The study makes far reaching recommendations on promoting cycling both in urban and rural India and making the Indian cycle industry globally competitive.
The final report of the study titled ‘Pedalling towards a Greener India: A report on promoting cycling in the country’ is being released on August 27, 2014 at 10:00 am at Silver Oak, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi by Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Parliamentary Affairs, and Dr Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare. The report release will be followed by a panel discussion from 11:15 am to 1:00 pm on promoting bicycling and strengthening the cycle industry in India.

The key recommendations are:
1) Cycle Industry Upgradation Fund Scheme (CUFS) should be introduced to provide support to the bicycle industry;
2) Ensuring provision and maintenance of cycling infrastructure in cities; and
3) Enhancing the export competitiveness of the cycle industry mobility
