Dear Friends,

Most of us would have experienced this if you were an Environmental Professional. If you were working in an industry you would be in a position to create fake results and reports about the persisting environmental status of your industry. where as if you were working in an Environmental Consultancies you would be forced  to give manipulated results for your customers satisfaction. When this will change? How to change this? When will people start to realize the importance of the environment, and when the environmental professionals will be allowed to work to save the environment instead of saving their company. One important question to you being an environmental professional have you ever given preference in taking any decisions in your family when compared with your brothers and sisters who were working in different field.

  • "Zero discharge " is a laughable word. It is NEVER possible.

If you go through the Section 25 of Water Act and interprete the matters on as written only basis. I have been trying to convince people for almost a decade and a half that it is not the industry that decides they are "Non-Polluting". It is the legal authority that certifies whther they are "More Polluting" or "Less Polluting".

Every individual thinks himself to be fit or knowledgeable to decide.

On the other hand authorities are constrained with many pressures while taking decisions. In the past Courts of Law have often done worse than better in the matters related to environmental pollution owing to scarcity of professionals with legal knowledge and this so called zero discharge concept has come to focus.

The matter presented by you is not in line with the point in discussion.

  • Even our PCB'S and govt authoritys also shown wrong details to peoples for example for past 13 years i was worked in textile Waste water treatment Always PCB'S say maintaining     zero discharge in all the industry but practically 100% zero discahrge maintained in all the time very dificult and technically very dificult but still govt official given consend to the industries and industrial peoples show the manipulted record to them

  • Dear Abdulbhai,

What I wrote were my experience and understanding. These could be principles we may to follow. Find out niche for different professions. There could be many professionals who cannot accept limitations. This 'look' in discussion comes from the poor quality work that is delivered by people who think they are experts. Having an overgrown beard and kurta-pyjama with an exila bag on right shoulder makes more of an Environmental Activist with slightly leftist school of thought.

Any subject is like a world in itself different countries, different set ups, in an interdisciplinary subject like this we belong to different countries, speakig different languages.

Someone from us has described my experience as prejudiced with his understanding without a consideration that he is also likely to be described prejudiced.

To best of my knowledge and understanding this is a forum for sharing ideas to strengthen the knowledge and know knowledge gathered by others.

    Thanks for responding positively.

I have a point to be raised, we need to ascertain the qualification, institute, experience and the professional skill these professionals have. I apologize for being discriminative about individuals upfront. In over two decades of my experience I have noted the facts for this as follows:

    1. Professionals from environmental science are different and have absolutely limited strength as professionals. They need to remain focussed to their subject of science and remain away from engineering.
    2. Engineering professionals have to be post graduates to be in the profession from different disciplines viz. Mech.,Civil, Chemical or Environmental itself.
    3. These days we see many 'consutants' who are non-tech or even science graduates. Thrash them out with all your force to maintain your dignity.
    4. Never align your profession with any PCB official primarily.
    5. Value your profession and wait for right time and advise only what u feel is correct and legal.
    6.  Never opt for shortcut.
    7. Let the customer go if he is not prepared to accept your advise. You will get bigger and better customers.
    8. EC business is most supportive to fabrication and erection jobs. Avoid it.
    9. All MoEF people who are associated with EC process have been endorsing white lies.
    10. Never consider yourself to be experienced. I have been endorsed by QCI / NABET more than twice for not being experienced. If there was anything I did in last 23 yrs. had been evaluated properly this would not have happened.
    11. This shows that you have to accept everything system certifies you to be.
    12. Academicians and Officials should keep out of this profession.

There could be many more agreeable and disagreeable points.

We need to be more frank about our practices and honest with customers.

Consider that every city will have a Barber association, a barber will never open a saloon in the same building, our profesion because of its constituents and the weakness of the individuals working for it.

Aggrevated further by the powers vested to immature and weaker legal framework.

Look at the importance given to the Environmental Professionals

  • Absolutely

  • @Ajay

    prejudiced analysis

forgetting that environment is a multidiscipline domain in which science as well engg have equal share.

    need to be revisit

    @Rahul

manipulation may be the need of his industry but it does not mean keep doing manipulations only. Simultaneously work to minimise or zeroing the manipulation working for improvements in systems : engineering as well as adminstrative.

Finally while working for environment, we can not work in isolation ...???????

  • Work with schools................. which I found very satisfying .Yes monetary gain is not much but if youhave a job and can do voluntary work with an environmental agency, you can make the difference by working with school children who will be the Gen-Next to face the brunt of all the mistakes we made. That is only true satisfying experience you can gain if you want to work to save the environment.
