Please read the EMAIL again. Focus on each and every word. Anyhow let me reiterate.
1. "I was previously employed with this firm."
This means that I know of the opening. I was informed by an ex-colleague during an informal conversation. So I thought this might be useful to you so I have posted the details.
This is also the reason why I cannot comment on the possibilities of you getting hired.
