The Climate Group is looking for a highly motivated Program Manager to play a key role in the organization’s Smart Climate Solutions, Solar Energy and Corporate Engagement work program. The role presents a challenging opportunity for a dynamic individual to work in a successful international NGO and assist in developing work streams fundamental to the success of the organization and to driving a global low carbon economic transformation.

About Us:

The °Climate Group is an international non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating leadership on climate change and catalyzing investment in a prosperous low carbon future. From our headquarters in London and offices in Brussels, Delhi, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Melbourne we work closely and at the highest levels with a coalition of front‐runner businesses and governments to adopt and promote effective solutions to climate change. In 2008, The Climate Group published a report: SMART 2020: enabling the low carbon economy in the information age. It is the world's first comprehensive global study of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector's growing significance for the world's climate and identifies significant opportunities for energy efficiency improvements and emissions reductions through the use of ICT –based solutions. We are currently building global work program around the findings of the report and plan to roll this out extensively in India with a range of government and corporate partners.

The Climate Group is also initiating a program to demonstrate and scale up the use of solar energy, with an emphasis on Concentrating Solar Power. India is expected to be a hub for this global work where we will work with national and state governments and the private sector, as well as coordinating with associated activities around the world.

Position Summary:

The role will focus on developing and building the Smart 2020 program in India including smart grid, buildings and other applications through a combination of partnerships with key stakeholders from government and the private sector, the design and implementation of specific projects, formulation of policy proposals and other interventions as appropriate. Similar work is also planned with the

solar energy sector, with an emphasis on large scale CSP. The work will tie into the international priorities and goals of The Climate Group.

Job Duties:

The Program Manager’s role will broadly cover the following areas:

a) Building awareness and capacity amongst a range of stakeholders – both government and corporate and facilitating best practice sharing.

b) Understanding barriers and challenges to scaling up low carbon technologies in India and engaging private and public sector players to develop solutions to these problems.

c) Facilitating pilot projects that employ smart climate solutions that are scalable and can be documented.

d) Facilitating the scale up of CSP in selected regions.

e) Engaging large corporates in the activities of The Climate Group through our broader set of initiatives. The program manager will also be required to continue work to develop our membership base in India.

f) Responsibility and support for meeting global program deliverables including workshops, publications, events, media and monitoring

g) Working with The Climate Group’s international team to support its effective interventions across a range of program and jurisdictions.

Knowledge and Skills:

- A strong understanding of climate change and related fields

- A strong understanding of the role of ICT and low carbon technologies.

- A strong understanding of renewable energy, especially solar.

- Skills in conceptualising, planning and executing a program of activities

- Ability to interact and influence senior stakeholders both in government and financial institutions and build networks

- Excellent ability to build relationships across industries

- Ability to collaborate with others in a complex, matrix-structured, dynamic organisational environment

- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects in a small organization

- Ability to work independently as well as in a team

Education and Experience:

- A good first and preferably second degree in a relevant area (technical, environmental science, architecture, engineering or related field) at least 5 years of full time work experience (preferably in a engineering company/environmental organization/ICT company/or related research organization)

Organizational Relationships:

- The Technology Program Manager will report to the India Director and work closely with our international team.

A passion for involvement in environmental and climate change solutions is desirable.
