The Climate Group is looking for a highly motivated Program Manager to play a key role in the organization’s Finance and Corporate Engagement work program. The role presents a challenging opportunity for a dynamic individual to work in a successful international NGO and assist in developing work streams fundamental to the success of the organization.

The °Climate Group is an international non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating leadership on climate change and catalyzing investment in a prosperous low carbon future. From our headquarters in London and offices in Brussels, Delhi, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Melbourne we work closely and at the highest levels with a coalition of front‐runner businesses and governments to adopt and promote effective solutions to climate change. The °Climate Group works across business and policy and in December 2008 launched ‘The Climate Principles: A framework for the finance sector’. We are seeking a program manager to develop and lead our finance related work in India and also more broadly engage leading Indian companies in a range of work aimed at accelerating the deployment of low carbon solutions.
Position Summary:
The role will focus on developing a program designed to encourage domestic and international financial institutions to actively work to reduce barriers to investment in lower carbon technologies; continue to build interaction with a range of government and finance sector stakeholders to deliver on existing finance program activities; build on our corporate engagement program and tie into the international priorities and goals of The Climate Group.
Job Duties:
The Program Manager’s role will broadly cover the following areas:
a) Building awareness and capacity amongst finance institutions in India (public, private and foreign owned) to be able to engage in and support the deployment of low carbon climate change solutions consistent with India’s policy objectives across a range of sectors.
b) Understanding barriers and challenges to investment in low carbon technologies in India and engaging private and public sector players to develop solutions to these problems.
c) Supporting and augmenting our international policy work on identifying and promoting public finance solutions to scale up private sector investment in low carbon technologies.
d) Connecting Finance institutions into The Climate Group’s corporate engagement program as well as the Climate Principles
e) Engaging large corporates in the activities of The Climate Group through our broader set of initiatives. The program manager will also be required to continue work to develop our membership base in India.
Knowledge and Skills:
- A strong understanding of climate change and related fields
- A strong understanding of the role public and private finance plays in furthering low carbon solutions
- Skills in conceptualising, planning and executing a program of activities
- Ability to interact and influence senior stakeholders both in government and financial institutions and build networks.
- Excellent ability to build relationships across industries
- Ability to collaborate with others in a complex, matrix-structured, dynamic organisational environment
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects in a small organization
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
Education and Experience:
- A good first and preferably second degree in a relevant area (finance, environmental science, policy, economics, business administration or related field) and at least 5 years of full time work experience (preferably in a financial institution/or related research organization)
Organizational Relationships:
- The Finance Program Manager will report to the India Director and work closely with our international team, especially our Senior Finance Advisor and International Policy Director who are both based in Europe
A passion for involvement in environmental and climate change solutions is desirable.
