ORGANIZATION PROFILE:

Regional Centre for Development Cooperation (RCDC) is a national level non for profit organization which works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable management of natural resources by communities. RCDC’s mandate is to enabling communities to restore their traditional rights over local natural resources and to improve their quality of lives by managing these resources. RCDC is working in natural resource management and advocacy aspect since 1993. RCDC is one of the highlighted organizations in natural resource management sector and has testimonial partnerships with some top notched environmental and developmental agencies around the globe like International Institute of Environmental Development (UK), Ford Foundation, European Commission, UNDP, KZE, SIMAVI, OXFAM NOVIB (Netherlands) and Concern World Wide (Ireland). RCDC also has strategic tie up with countries some best policy making think tank institutes like MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Rural Development Institute, ICFRE, FSI, IIFM, FRI and TFRI. RCDC is a resource come implementing agency and nodal agency for the Indian part of NTFP International exchange programme (Indonesia) since 2006.

Working Area:

RCDC’s main three thematic areas of work are:

  • Sustainable Forest Management and Decentralized Forest Governance
  • Sustainable Water Solutions
  • Land Rights and Land Use Planning

Recently, RCDC is working in the issues of:

1. CLIMATE CHANGE (MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION):

  1. RCDC is working on both the aspects of climate change. We have at present a Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation project with Concern Worldwide (Dublin, Ireland) addressing the issues of sea level rise in 2 district of Orissa in east coast.
  2. RCDC is exploring the issues related to REDD+ and its pragmatic feasibility in Indian forest.  RCDC is exploring the governance issues related to REDD+ and how forest fringe communities can be benefitted with minimum bottlenecks and institutional road blocks.
  3. RCDC is working in the issues of sustainable agriculture and food security.
  4. RCDC has recently started international, national and regional policy research and strategy analysis for bio fuels.

2. BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS:

  1. 2010 has been declared international year biodiversity. RCDC is working in the dimension of Biodiversity Conservation since its inception and currently working in the linkages and cross cutting issues of biodiversity conservation and management.

3. GENDER DEVELOPMENT AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT:

  1. RCDC believes that without real gender integration no developmental agendas can harvest positive results. A woman plays a critical role in overall stability of natural resource conservation and management. RCDC is now focuses to further strengthen their role in decision making process and enhance their leadership attributes at the grass root.

THE POSITION:

RCDC is seeking two dynamic and highly motivated candidates for the post of SUMMER INTERN (Policy Research), to work in the following area:

        I.            Policy analysis and research (international, national and state) on issues pertaining to climate change, gender development (women empowerment) and sustainable livelihoods from the perspective of forest and village forest protection communities.

Job title:  Summer Intern (Policy Research, University Fresher)

Internship stipend:  Competitive at international / national level

Line Manager/ Reporting Officer:  Programme Manager

Office base: Bhubaneswar (some travelling may be required)

Time period: 3 Months (Flexible)

POSITION Description:

The Program Department of RCDC will expose interns to its all developmental programs. The Communications/Resource Development Department will give interns experience in domestic fundraising and volunteer management. The Finance/Accounting Department will give interns exposure to financial accounting systems and procedures including financial reporting, grants reporting, statutory filings, annual audits and budgets of the non-profit organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic research findings (tangible outputs: submission of a detailed analytical report, database (excel) and prospective plans) in above mentioned themes.
  • Interviewing different stakeholders (Donors, Govt. Departments, NGOs, CBOs, Media etc.) about their work, their feedbacks ,future plans pertaining to above themes and documenting them (preparation of database).
  • Participate in the planning and supervision of organization’s ongoing projects giving pragmatic and strategic inputs if asked for.
  • Assisting and supporting the Programme Managers in the achievement of goals and targets in co-ordination with partner agencies and communities.
  • Conduct outreach and coordinate research to influence debates on above themes (Bio- fuels, Gender Development, Climate Change and Sustainable Livelihoods)  to advance improvements  by contributing writings like:  articles for newspapers highlighting RCDC’s work, blogs for RCDC’s website (s), good research articles for RCDC’s in house journals and different thematic publications.
  • Interns may gain experience in identifying grant opportunities, developing proposals for government and private foundation grants, reporting to donor agencies, researching development trends and participating in seminars on development issues of relevance to RCDC’s interest areas.

  • Develop and implement research/project strategies and adapt as opportunities and circumstances unfold.

  • Deliver on-the-ground results on time and on budget.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with teams of individuals and colleagues at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Must have laptops. Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office and internet research are quintessential).
  • Willingness to travel.
  • RCDC may provide full furnished studio guest rooms for the interns as per availability; in case of non availability it may provide assistance to interns to get decent accommodation in Bhubaneswar.
  • RCDC will provide travel reimbursement in case if there is any interstate and intrastate travel movement associated with the internship work.
  • Inters may avail total of 4 days leaves (per month 2) in the entire tenure of their internship as per organizational norms.

  • RCDC may provide full furnished studio guest rooms for the interns as per availability; in case of non availability it may provide assistance to interns to get decent accommodation in Bhubaneswar.
