21st of March is celebrated worldwide every year as the International Day of Forests in order to create awareness about the importance of the forests and their impact on the environment. Forests cover about one third of the Earth's total land area. It's home to over 80% of the terrestrial species of plants and animals. The livelihood of about 1.6 billion people depend on forests. An estimated 13 million hectares of forests were lost annually between 2000 and 2010 due to deforestation! Further, forests are sources of renewable water supplies to about 76 % of the global population.Therefore, Conservation of Forests is crucial to our very existence.
