Let us see if seven (7) IITs and MOEF can together make the river Ganga (read National River) clean by 2020.....
GRBMP will aim to have adequate provision for water and energy in the Ganga Basin to accommodate the pressures of increased population, urbanization, industrialization and agriculture while ensuring the sanctity of the fundamental aspects of the river system are protected. These include:
(i) river must continuously flow (Aviral Dhaara),
(ii) river must not be seen as a carrier of waste loads (Nirmal Dhaara),
(iii) river must have longitudinal and lateral connectivity,
(iv) river must have adequate space for its various functions,
(v) river must function as an ecological entity

  • Good thought and plan...but will bureaucracy allow to it happen, since they think they know better than greatest scientists...
  • Well a case of babudum hits back. We have had action plans on the river before - the results are known to all. Back then, we said, the plan was doomed becuse "we the academia" were not "there" in "numbers". Now seven of "us" are "there". The babudum will set back and watch "us". Wonder what will happen now. True we have the best brains at IIT's. Performers? Researchers? Commitment to a cause called Ganga?. Search hard for them, they are few and far between - and the acedmia will need all they can muster for this project.

Comming to Funding part. 15 crores divided by 7. Not much per IIT. But we run an institute in nearly that money. And they have to do but one job. Plan well guys, the world will watch us on this.
