WWF-India, one of the country’s largest conservation organizations is looking for an individual with exceptional resourcefulness and capability to multi-task, to work as Manager –Sustainable Business (Forestry).
WWF-India’s current programme areas include, Climate Change & Energy, Sustainable Forest Management, Water Resources/River Basin Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Species and Landscape Conservation, Marine and Freshwater Conservation. These programmes work across sectors and regions in various parts of the country.
The Market Transformation Initiative is WWF’s global initiative, created to address the adverse impacts of markets and commodities on globally critical and significant ecosystems. WWF engages with government, companies, their supply chains and investors, to promote changes in the way global commodities are produced, consumed and financed. As part of this program, about 15 global commodities have been identified across agriculture, fisheries and forest sectors (e.g. palm oil, cotton, sugar, soy, shrimp, etc). Unsustainable production of timber, pulp and paper is one of the key drivers of deforestation that has an adverse impact on biodiversity.
WWF promotes Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for timber, pulp and paper and encourages companies, including retailers and traders to produce and consume FSC Certified products. WWF also helps companies take a step wise approach to achieving certification through its Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN)

Desired Candidate Profile:
1. Thorough knowledge and understanding of:
-- responsible forest management,
-- responsible purchasing of forest products,
-- certification processes,
-- domestic and global forest products industry,
-- governance, trade and certification issues as they relate to the forest sector
2. An advanced degree in Forestry, Forest Products Technology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Policy and/or Economics, International Relations, Business Management, Government Relations or Law, international development/international policy, management or a relevant field
3. Position requires 5-6 years work experience and demonstrated success in advocating for and achieving programmatic objectives with the private sector. Relevant Industry Experience is preferred.

3. High-level of interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills.

Job Description:
- Sr. Manager is responsible for developing a detailed forestry strategy for promoting responsible forest products trade, responsible forestry and credible forest certification for transforming the Indian market
- To lead engagement and negotiate commitments with strategically chosen producers and purchasers of forest products, based on ambitious, time bound, realistic and measurable targets to measure progress
- Facilitate workshops with businesses to promote sustainable business practices, as mentioned above
- Maintain thorough knowledge about and contact with the WWF International Forest Programme and related WWF network-wide campaigns.
- Represent WWF office internally and externally on issues of responsible forest products trade, responsible forestry and credible forest certification, and corporate engagement.
- Engage policy makers to promote sustainable forestry in the Indian market
- Work with senior management to develop and implement fundraising strategies for promoting the market transformation agenda
- Evaluate and monitor performance of all activities in accomplishing project objectives and ensure timely reporting to donors
- Maintain close working relationships with partners, non-governmental organizations, multilaterals
- Hire and manage team/interns, as necessary
Remuneration will be competitive with Indian NGO pay scales and will depend upon candidate’s experience levels and the overall WWF-India salary structure. WWF-India does not provide housing, telephone or vehicle facilities.
