  • The true representation of air sample depends on Selection of proper AAQ locations. Selecting exact upwind and downwind direction locations sometimes becomes very difficult if the spread of wind direction is more/high. Therefore you can use Wind Impact Area Diagrams (WIAD) for selection of AAQ locations.

  • as per MoEF guideline, the selection of AAQ monitoring locations in 10 km radius is depends on last five year past meteorological data. then go to two to three locations in downwind direction, one location in upwind direction, one location in each cross winds direction and one at plant site, one at nearest village, and one at if any sensitive area is located. overall 10 to 12 locations are required for EIA studies. in generally a monthly monitoring AAQ locations are need to install one at working area 100m away from, colony, main gate, canteen like and it is depends on plant size.

  • Sir,

As per my knowledge for EIA studies  ambient air quality locations are identified based on down wind direction and upwind directions & the same is also applicable for compliance ambient air quality / environmental monitoring program.
