Here's an interesting report by India Environmental Portal called, "Walkability in Indian Cities" covering 6 cities in India - Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Indore, Pune, Rajkot and Surat. http://indiaenvironmentportal.org.in/files/file/Walkability-India_SEP.pdf

How do you think walkability can be improved in your neighbourhood?

There's also a website http://www.walkscore.com/ (not related to the above survey) where you can get a walkability score for any address in the world!

  • The reason some of you were not able to open the file is because of the pdf version in your system is not compatible with the one the walkability report. Please try again with the latest adobe pdf reader 8 and above. If it still doesnt work, please give me your email ids, i would be happy to share the report. CAI Asia believes is sharing information without any costs!

  • Thanks for sharing this friends! I was wondering how and why the cities were chosen for this project. Will read to figure that one. VERY glad to see this kind of studies going on in India. There is always hope. The West has developed into a self-destructive system, and India might still have the time to rethink growth, and mature in a sustainable way. Not even 100 years since independence, and we might already need these principles to keep us on the beneficial path.

  • Hi Ravindra,

Unfortunately, the pdf or website is not mine, so I can't remove passwords.  Please go to http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in and search for "Walkability in Indian Cities" and you should be able to come to the document. I was able to retrieve it just now.

Or Please check this link http://tinyurl.com/3udhrmr and see if you can find the document download link. I've shortened it so it doesn't get cut off.
