Earthwatch Institute India is a scientific research and environment education organization, specialists in ‘Citizen Science’ and ‘Field-based Experiential Learning’. Earthwatch engages citizens in scientific field research and education to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. The Earthwatch community continues to grow rapidly, with participation from members of the general public we call ‘citizen scientists’, to corporate employees, to educators and students.

 

Our research programme focuses on the sustainable management of resources, ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation, water, climate change and community based conservation in order to better understand key environmental issues. 

 

Earthwatch Institute India is seeking Environment Education Manager

 

The Education and Learning Manager will be responsible for designing, delivering and evaluating a range of field based experiential learning programmes which engage key audiences within Earthwatch’s model of developing environmental leaders. These training programmes will inspire participants to personally engage with environment and sustainability issues, leading to behaviour change at home and at work. 

 

This position is based in Gurgaon and reports to the Country Director.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

1. Operational delivery of priority corporate learning programmes on water and ecosystem services2. Champion education and learning strategy, to include:a. identifying priority audiences, relevant sustainability focus & core learning products requiredb. input into identifying appropriate research locations & activities for various learning programmesc. fundraising strategy and developing proposals for funded learning programmes, including corporate funders, trusts and grants3. Design, test and develop replicable new learning programmes, tailored to key audiences such as students, teachers and executivesa. Design & develop integrated research and learning journey & core programme agenda, as relevant, with attention to appropriate measurement parameters to facilitate end of programme assessment of successb. Design & develop training modules as required, to include pre-field work, in field training plans and materialsc. Provide support to key subject matter experts (including scientific research team and partner sustainability experts) to develop effective training plans and materials as part of the programmed. Deliver programmes, capturing feedback, review and modify programme design & materials 4. Deliver learning components of field programmes to a high standard against agreed learning aims and objectives:a. Manage and update educational resource materialsb. Work with research and engagement team to ensure timely delivery of pre-work c. Facilitate field-based learning programmesd. Continuous improvement of learning programme impact, based upon feedback from participants and delivery team5. Build excellence in Earthwatch’s capability and capacity to develop and deliver high impact, integrated research & learning programmes, by establishing and managing network of external facilitation associates at key project locations. 6. Ensure effective learning impact evaluation of all programmes, to include:a. Engagement to measure the learning impact of programmes on participantsb. Seeking feedback from participants and delivery team to enable continuous programme improvementc. Lead on external learning impact evaluation studies

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

 

a. Masters in Environment / Science / Management with over 10 years of work experience in environment education and facilitated learning and conservation / management institution. b. Experience / understanding of participatory conservation research model and working with field-based scientists c. Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating effective experiential learning strategies and solutions d. Experience in delivering experiential learning programmes, facilitating participatory processes and group learning and developmente. Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholder groups, including corporate, education and youth sectors and local community groupsf. Knowledge and understanding of key learning and personal development principles (including approaches and tools such as learning styles, MBTI, participatory action research, appreciative inquiry etc.) and learning media (including e-learning)g. Passion for and commitment to the environment, conservation, participatory learning principles and personal/organisational developmenth. Demonstrated creative thinkingi. Excellent communication and presentation skills – verbal and writtenj. Excellent project / programme management and team working skills
