"According to annual pollution levels report, measured through 2010, published by the ministry of environment and forests, Delhi has regained its crown as India’s most polluted city. In contrast, several big cities, including Mumbai and Bangalore, have seen peak air pollution levels go down substantially in 2010, compared to the previous two years." Read more in DNAIndia

Since, I am not a cynic and forever believe in positve change, let me pose you a question. If you were the environmental policy expert appointed by the Delhi Government, what was ONE most important thing that you would do in Delhi to cut back the pollution of Delhi......

Remember, there is no one best answer. So, why don't you advise based on the your area of expertize...

  • No wonder.....taking the fact into consideration of Delhi's 'craze for cars'.....and poor public transportation system......!!!!!

The public transportation system in Delhi is far away from meeting the need of population (metro project helped at least to move forward). Multi model transport approach needs to be adopted depending on the congestion of roads in each urban sector. I feel it is considerable to levy additional tax on four wheelers to encourage usage of public transportation (of course, provided it is in place). Till the time people wont shift from personal vehicles to Public transport, this problem is never going to solve.

  • Follow Mumbai/Bangalore models.
  • Mumbai, Bengaluru or other cities are not Capital Cities of India. Delhi is in focus of the World. Please compare now the so called CEPI criteria with this in background. The futility of the study and the baselessness of the Index is evidenced. The major concern for Delhi is air pollution. This is in straight proportion of the vehicles primarily and the matter in the case is further traceable to unauthorized constructions in parking spaces, leading to unproportionate acceleration of the vehcle causing momentary violation of emission norms. With lakhs of constructions and lakhs of vehicles moveing around and getting blocked, the condition is ensured the way it has been found.
