Communications Officer- Species and Landscape- WWF

WWF-India is looking for a Communication Officer for its Species and Landscapes programme. ------------------------------------------------------ WWF-India, the country’s largest environmental conservation NGO with a national branch network is looking for an individual with exceptional resourcefulness and a commitment to support the Species Conservation Programme with its Communications and Campaigns. The landscapes are spread throughout India and cover critical areas such as the Sunderbans, the Terai, the Eastern Himalayas, the Western Ghats, and the Central Indian forests. WWF works in these landscapes among other things, on species conservation, corridor restoration, sustainable livelihoods, and human wildlife conflict and policy issues. The Communication Officer will work with the Senior Communications Manager in strengthening the outreach and visibility of the Species Conservation Programme within as well as outside the country. Job Responsibilities and Objectives involve: Assisting in the implementation of overall Species and Landscapes programmes’ as well as individual landscapes’ annual communications plan. Collating information of field work from programmes and forwarding it to the team, on daily basis Collating and writing stories for the monthly e-bulletin of the programmes, as well as helping in its design and timely publication and meeting the deadline for its distribution. Searching for online news related to the programmes and forwarding URLs to the team, on daily basis. Collating and writing content for publications of the programmes, including those for international donors. Helping the team to establish photo stock of the above programmes. This includes sourcing images from within and outside the organization as well as image storage and access. Assisting in improving the content and design of the programmes’ web pages. Helping in design, production and sourcing footage as well as copyright issues for small videos of the programmes. Assisting in specific targeted campaigns on conservation of tiger/ elephant/ rhino. Visiting field sites to assist in communication workshops and if need be for stories. Prerequisites for the position include: A degree in Journalism or Mass Communication. Degree in any other discipline with proven writing skills shall also be considered; At least 1 year experience as a writer, preferably with a recognized publication or a NGO; Strong communication skill in English (written & verbal) is essential. Ability to speak and understand Hindi is desirable; Good understanding of issues affecting conservation of wildlife in India and a strong passion to conserve wildlife; Experience of basic desktop publishing tools and working knowledge of productions of various mediums and technologies, especially print, a must; Experience of photo editing software essential. Basic knowledge of web-content-management system, different webpage creating software like Dream weaver and MS FrontPage as well as basic movie editing software is an advantage; Willingness to travel / visit field is essential. Other Desired Skills: Ability to articulate ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing; Ability to collate, analyze, synthesize and present information in a clear way; Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; Ability to work independently as well as part of team; Good interpersonal skills and ability to blend in a multicultural team; Good network in wildlife circles as well as media (electronic & print) is an advantage. Remuneration will be competitive with Indian NGO pay scales and will depend upon candidate’s experience levels and the overall WWF-India salary structure. WWF-India does not provide housing, telephone or vehicle facilities.
