This is to give a pointer to the new corp of young climate change researchers. What topics are hot today and can give the satisfaction to the researchers that they are really contributing to our pool of knowledge. Please share your ideas and also you are welcome to share your current research with IEN members.

  • There are many areas that could be explored as follows :

    1. Affordable renewable energy technologies : Solar & wind off-grid projects and technologies

    2. Transportation : Electric vehicles or other bio-fuel based vehicles to reduce the GHG emissions. Passenger behaviour change to switch to low GHG vehicles and public transport.

    3. Industrial : Still energy efficiency and water efficiency is highly in demand and unexplored in India. I was surprised when I visited one of the renowned companies in India does not water harvesting facility. Now, they have woken up and working on it. So, my perception is there is a huge gap between the academic institutions and industries. As it is observed, 70% of the global GHG emissions are from the private sector companies. Thus, I think there is profound need to work on industrial efficiency methods and technologies.

I urge you all to go through http://climatecolab.org/ and share your  views.

  • It's a research out of common sense that, we keep withdrawing water extensively from ground. What are we doing to refill the same except a little rooftop rain water collection? The voids of dried ground water channels are absorbing radiation heavily and releasing the same also adding to the 'Global Warming'. Raising ground water table should have been on priority. Need a powerful RWH System to solve this problem.

  • Climate change is still new for India. We should start with the basic i.e mapping Vulnerability and focus on adaptivity of people. If we first cover the social aspects then people might start to take climate change seriously as an evolving issue.

  •  Have worked on carbon sequestration in re-vegetated mine spoil. Uploading article published in  Science for Total Environment. Interested please download. Thank you.

  • Topics and concepts such Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Material Flow Analysis (MFA), EcoDesign, Industrial Symbiosis are still under developed in India when it comes to sustainability and climate change. It is high time we shift our focus on environment effects of production phases in industries to the effects on the whole life cycle of the products!

  • There is plenty of research work done on Green Building Rating systems, however I have not come across any that explores the viability and possible positive interventions that these widely documented rating tools such as LEED, GRIHA, BREEAM and so on, can make in the field of regeneration projects for urban neighborhoods that are highly infested by haphazard planning and poverty.

I would be interested to know any suggestions or ideas, in regard with this subject.

  • focus on sustainable agriculture, from food security also covered in the world and india

  • well...i believe vulnerability mapping and GHG emission calculation (with special reference to use of national emission factors) are quite important fields to start with.
  • No defining research on carbon sequestration on industrial basis

better quantification on effects of climatic change

  • This is very good to hear that Government spent a lot of money on research projects. NICRA (National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture) is a big project on climate change, in all fields of agriculture. But truth is that today not for all but is a good deal for Scientists to earn extra income. Work is going only on papers no one is behind this to monitor whether data are real or not.
