Bhopal Gas Tragedy Verdict - 2010

Its been 26 years and the verdict of Bhopal Gas Tragedy is very very disaapointing. Union Carbide is fined with only Rs One lakh and the six accused who were given 2 years Jail term have already given bail and are roaming free. How can this verdict be given in which 40 tons of toxic - Methyly Isocyanate (MIC) gas was allowed to escape through the factory premises that resulted in killing 15,000 people and affected lakhs of them.....people of Bhopal are now dealing with another kind of tragedy now.

  • I appreciate most of the indians shows the sympathy on the environment damage during bhopal issue, but the people shall think in proactive and pollution control board has to take this as one of the worst senario to streanghten the industries to adopt safety measure. The training on the environment damage through unsafe conditions and practices impacts environment damage.
Atlast the environment protection is in every one hands let it not compromise, politicalise and weaken in the statutory regulations.
I thank this media is really giving oppertunity to express our thought and feeling towards envirornment protection.

This judgement on the tragedy is a slap on the Bhopalis faces for fighting...and asking them to shut-up. The state of Indian Juduciary... what a joke....!! This also shows that the wealthy can get away from doing anything in India. It's official now. As everyne would agree with me when I say this judgement was highly influenced. Another most horrendous part is that the hearing for a most tragic incident invovling deaths of thousands and suffering of some more lakhs is coming after 26 years. Is this how India can be. The largest democratic in the world has proven to be a laughing stock. now the wealthy investors coming to India can firmly believe that they can invest and reap profits at people's cost as the judiciary system of India will be in their pockets. Few months ago I got see the ratings on the most corruptive countries in the world and Philipines was top, and India was somewhere near 17 or 18th spot. But I feel that India should top the list of most corruptive country in the next ratings.
Once again you can loudly say "In India MONEY can really buy anything man!!."

Can we do not do anything to get it right here in India?
We don't want a westernised India or the laws to be copied from the west or what ever.
All we need is just simple justice. To punish the people responsible for such dirty acts.

The sea animals affected by oil leak are given due care by the US government. The value given for indian lives by our govt. is so glaring with this verdict. Fault is with us, our govt. Total SHAME!

  • This verdict should have set an example for other Companies so that they take the Health & Safety issues in India at their priority and should treat HSE measures as "No Tolerance"..area....but the fact is that now..most of the facilities..will take it easy as there are no stringent judicial system that exists in India..this verdict clearly is a sad chapter for India.
  • this verdict reveals that in India, judicial system is how much poor, how any one can this type of system. This is all about game of politics, government is more worrying about US-India relations rather than thinking for Bhopal gas tragedy, so that no body in future can do carelessness in respect t environment and human health...

  • Today when Americans are desperate to hit hard on the gulf oilspill mishap for justice in the name of environment. It is only the america who is protecting Anderson( the main culprit of bhopal's mass killing). It is a matter of worry and a open call to bring reforms in our own judiciary system so that it can work fairly and without pressure.
