Modern beekeeping in West Bengal was introduced by well known Gandhian brothers Satish and Khitish Dasgupta. First modern Apiary was inaugurated b Mahatma himself in the year 1934 in Sodepur in campus of Khadi Pratisthan. The state is blessed with all bee species Apis Cerena, Apis Florea and the wild species Apis Dorsata are found in plenty. A few decade back European species Apis Mellifera was introduced successfully. Since 1970 Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) organized cooperatives in almost every district few of them survived. after 2000 cluster program was planned first with support of UNDP and later by Government of India thus this state was also benefited. Attached documents shows availability of bee flora in various districts thus the state can become hone bowel of the world looking at potentiality. We can plan bee migration, production of honey from specific flora which has global demand, and other valuable bee products like Royal Jelly, Bee Venom, Wax etc. We must create awareness so that it can be popular program and environmental friendly too. In addition it will help increasing crop yield due to pollination.

Thanks for such a detailed feasibility analysis. We need more such reports from practitioners from the field. Sharing knowledge is the only way for creating a difference.
