INTERPOL's 7thInternational Conference on Environmental Crime
Lyon, 13 and 17 September 2010
The INTERPOL General Secretariat will host the 7th International Conference on Environmental Crime, the 22nd Wildlife Crime WorkingGroup and the 16th Pollution Crime Working Group meetings between 13and 17 September 2010.
Over the last two years significant progress has been made in the area of environmental crime under the auspices of INTERPOL. The scopeof activities has been expanded beyond wildlife and pollution to nowinclude all areas of environmental crime, such as illegal logging,over-exploitation of fisheries, bio-security and misuse of protectedareas and theft of natural resources.
This Conference will bring together many of the world’s responsible law enforcement agencies, non-government environment organisations andintergovernmental bodies who will share their expertise, knowledge andinsights and work towards an enhanced state of coordination,cooperation and collaboration.
PROPOSALS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND DOCUMENTS
The 7th International Environmental Crime Conference will be a platform for countries to align themselves strategically and combinetheir efforts in ensuring environmental laws are effectively enforced.
Governmental, non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations are requested to prepare their position on how they can contribute tocombating international environmental crime. INTERPOL believes thatit is only together and with an enhanced state of co-operation,co-ordination and collaboration that we will be more effective in ourenforcement efforts.
Issues discussed at the conference will include:
- Financial support for the INTERPOL Environmental Crime Programme
- Sustainability and Strategic direction of the Environmental Crime Programme
- Environmental crime priorities
- Present and future environmental crime projects
- Global operational enforcement actions
- Environmental law enforcement capacity building delivery and standards
- Intelligence handling, exchange and management
- Environmental law enforcement advocacy
Organizations are encouraged to submit proposals and recommendations to be tabled and discussed during the Conference and Working Groupmeetings by no later than 13 August 2010. Please use the following template to assist you in preparing your paper.
