I mean to say that the quality of the extracted coal/ metal by using different process and which process produces less hazardous materials etc., will be an interesting topic

I agree with Dr. Harish KJ as the hazardous waste management is a bit costly process and thus handling the same for a ph.d would be expensive too. May be the mining of a particular mineral like coal/ metal related topic may be chosen for phd

look for something related to leachate management, if it is a related to hazardous elements, chose occupational issues but may be a bit expensive.
