Dear All IEN MembersCan anyone clarify me exact lpcd criteria regarding flushing water estimation for floating population specifically in building construction and area development project/infrastructure project. In any case, is it possible that sometime flushing water requirement can be greater than other domestic requirement depending up on the nature of environment we developing i.e. Recreation/occupational/institutional/residential ???waiting for your response

  • thanks anand sir! However, i had already seen the enclosed pdf prior. I found reply of my query after going through the attachment and this is definitely useful

  • Dear Praveen

This is true and known fact but i have queried regarding bifurcation of these 45 LPCD and 15 LPCD respectively for domestic and flushing purposes with specific reference to floating population. if you have any reference which can justify the exact bifurcation or any water audit report which state the consumption illustration of floating occupant of any occupational/recreational/institutional building kindly share.

    Thanks for your reply!

  • Hi. I want to share the Guidelines mentioned in construction manual issued by MoEF.

Under normal conditions, water consumption per person for flushing is 45 litres (9 litre/flush with 5 number of uses). With efficient fixture (3 and 6 litre/flush), water use is 21 litre (3 litre/flush with 3 uses and 6 litre /flush with 2 uses). Water use per person for washing with normal fixture with a flow rate of 20 litres per minute is 40 litre (assuming use for 2 minutes), while with efficient fixture (flow rate of 7.5 lpm) is 15 litres.

  • ryt now i dont have any such information.. but i will try to gather some information about it and will share with you.

  • Thanks for your reply! Have you seen any water audit report of operational commercial projects, if yes kindly share with me because i have seen water audit report of CSE building published in may 2010 where almost all the occupant come under category of floating population and the as per their audited report the domestic and flushing water use ratio was 70:30. As per your suggested estimation, kindly provide any water audit report for clarification as after considering water audit report of CSE i am doubtful regarding ratio of 30:70 for domestic and flushing
  • Hello!! I would like to share what I know..

See.. as per NBC norms the water requirement for floating population is calculated by 15 lpcd, out of which 70% is assumed to be the domestic reqmt and 30% to be the flushing reqt. (in case of residential projects or projects whr thr z a provision for people living). However, in case of commercial projects water rqmt for floating population depends on type of use...like for restaurant visitors water is calculated by lpcd and bifurcation in commercial cases is the opposite to that of residential, i.e., 70% flushing & 30% domestic.

I hope this may be useful to you.
